Student Show Proposal 2009
I want to install a copy machine in the gallery space. On the cover of the copy machine will be a sign that reads, “Photocopy Your Face.” Through this I hope that students, staff and visitors will do just that and copy their faces. I will make the paper dock that holds the photocopies inaccessible to the user. I will go to the gallery every hour and collect the copied faces. Later I will then take these faces; cut, paste and combine them into new representation of human expressions that are, scrambled and collaged together to make new faces. In this I am attempting to manipulate the visual representation of emotions as a documentation or a record of different expressions. These visual signs are then interpreted or represent facial expressions that are caught in an act. These new faces will then be placed on the wall around and above the photocopier. My attempt in this project is to take the captured expressions and personalities to create a documentation of the people of PCC. And to force these different faces whom are strangers and friends to become one and to interact with each other. This project allows all students to be involved with the show.
Along with this explanation I will include examples of self portraits I did in the style that I plan on doing for the other faces. Also to be included is a drawing to show how the installation will look with the copy machine and the collages.
* I have a photocopy machine rental reserved for the show upon your approval.
